The non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” was registered on May 4, 2016, (code according to the Unified State Register of Enterprises and Organizations of Ukraine 40462489) and is an assignee of the Regional non-governmental organization of the league of social workers of Ukraine “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” that was registered on February 4, 2009, (code according to the Unified State Register of Enterprises and Organizations of Ukraine 36334092) and acted as a strategic partner of the Sumy Regional Centre of Social Services for Family, Children and Youth in realization of social programs at the state, regional and local levels.
The non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” is an executive partner of the International Organization for Migration on the territory of Sumy region.
Since 2013 the organization has been a member of the All-Ukrainian Coalition of Non-Governmental Organizations that Deal with Counter-Trafficking in Human Beings.
Since 2014 the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” has been a member of the Regional Coordination Council on Family, Gender Equality, Demographic Development, Prevention of Domestic Violence, Combating Human Trafficking.
Since April 2018 the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” has been a founder of the all-Ukrainian coalition of regional initiatives “TOLOKA”.
Since September 2018 the organization has been a member of the all-Ukrainian non-governmental union “Ukrainian Child Rights Network”.
Since October 2018 the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” has been a member of the board of the all-Ukrainian non-governmental union “Safe World”.
The non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” began its activity with a series of trainings in communicative techniques of behavioral changes of teenagers and the youth. The measures were aimed at prevention of negative events among children and young people of Sumy region. The indicated interactive methodology was mastered by workers of a network of centres of social services for family, children and youth. March, April, November, December 2009.
In March-April 2010 the organization prepared and conducted the seminars “Advocacy of the Expanded Access to Services Regarding Reproductive Health, Family Planning and Shaping of Safe Behavior of HIV Positive Women and Teenage Girls” and “Reproductive Health of HIV Positive Women and Teenage Girls” with the financial support from the United Nations Fund for Population Activities in Ukraine and the all-Ukrainian non-governmental organization “League of Social Workers of Ukraine”. Representatives of governmental organizations and state institutions that provide care, support, psychological, social and legal consulting/assistance for HIV positive women and teenage girls participated in this seminar.
In May-June 2011 the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” together with the Regional Centre of Social Services for Family, Children and Youth implemented on the territory of Sumy region a project “Permanent Education – an Opportunity to Acquire Skills to Solve any Tasks Successfully” that presupposed conduction of trainings for adopting parents and educating parents of family-type children's homes of the cities of Romny, Lebedyn, the districts of Romny, Lypova Dolyna, Nedryhailiv, Krasnopillya, Okhtyrka of Sumy region. The event was conducted with the purpose of social support and prevention of professional burnout of adopting parents as well as of prevention of return of adopted children to state institutions.
In February 2012 the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” prepared and conducted a seminar named “From an Idea to a Project”. The purpose of this event was to inform the active youth of the city, how their socially-oriented ideas may be implemented by means of projects.
In 2013 the organization conducted a street action “The Youth Aims to be Healthy” and the regional component of the all-Ukrainian action under the slogan “For a Free World without Slavery!” that coincided with the International Day against Slavery. All the measures took place due to the generous support of the American people through the project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) within the programme dealing with counter-trafficking in human beings of the International Organization for Migration.
The “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” together with its partner, the financial and consulting company “Broker Service Group”, conducted during May - June 2013 a survey among the youth of Sumy region in order to determine the level of financial awareness. The results showed that 70% of respondents considered the issue of financial awareness relevant. The next step was development of an educational course for adults. At the end of July 2013, a pilot group that included graduates of higher education establishments was working on the territory of the region. Participants gained a set of knowledge and practical skills in the basics of financial awareness (drawing up a family budget, planning significant financial events of the life, formation of a cash reserve, financial security, etc.).
Also, in 2013, the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” joined the implementation of the project "Back to Work: Reintegration of Mothers and Fathers into Professional Life after a Child Care Leave". The objective of the project was creation of conditions for successful return of parents to work after a child care leave.
Since 2014 the “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” has been a regional partner of the European advocacy campaign "Open the Doors to Children", the national coordinator of this campaign is a representative office of the charity organization “Hope and Homes for Children” in Ukraine. The purpose of the campaign is to raise public awareness of the dangers and unacceptability of the institutional care and upbringing of children, and of existing alternatives as well as to develop the capacity of social experts and non-governmental organizations to implement deinstitutionalization.
From 2014 to 2018, the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” was a regional partner of the Travelling Human Rights Documentary Film Festival Docudays UA.
In October 2014, the head of the organization signed an agreement with the project coordinator of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in Ukraine on the implementation of the project “Spreading of the National Mechanism for Cooperation of the Subjects who Take Actions in the Sphere of Counter-Trafficking in Human Beings”. The project was designed for 5 years, from January 15, 2014, to June 15, 2019.
Since December 2014, the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” has started to work with internally displaced persons, with financial support from the IOM. It studied needs, composed questionnaires, purchased and distributed humanitarian aid, conducted competitive biddings, prepared financial reports. 144 families have been covered, almost UAH 570,000 of the humanitarian aid have been granted. Psychological and legal consulting services were being rendered together with the above mentioned work. There worked 4 psychologists and 1 lawyer.
On April 28, 2015, a regional seminar “Organization of Providing of Social and Psychological Assistance to Children and their Families who have been Displaced to the Regions of Ukraine from the Temporarily Occupied Territory and the Areas of Anti-Terrorist Operation” was organized and conducted for employees of centres of social services for family, children and youth, psychologists of the Department of Education and Science of Sumy Regional State Administration. 31 people were trained. Financial assistance for the purchase of medicines and home repair for internally displaced persons was granted.
With the financial support of the IOM, the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” during two years (2015, 2016) was implementing the project “Protect Your Future”. The aim of the project was raise awareness of vulnerable children and youth concerning safe migration and employment through informational and educational trainings using the methodology “Equal-Equal” among students of vocational schools in Sumy region.
Since December 2015, during three years, the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” had been conducting a car race named “For Spare Parts - Only Machines!” devoted to the International Day against Slavery in Sumy region and initiated by the All-Ukrainian Coalition of Non-Governmental Organizations that Deal with Counter-Trafficking in Human Beings. The purpose was to activate and raise awareness of communities in the regions, where the member organizations of the All-Ukrainian Coalition that Deal with Counter-Trafficking in Human Beings are working, regarding the risks and dangers related to participation in the illegal organs transplantation.
From March 2015 to January 2016, under the grant support of the project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) “Fair Justice” the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” was implementing a project “The Quality Investigation of Courts Activity in Sumy Region Using the Methodology of Social Reporting Cards”.
From May to June 2015, the project “Look to the Future with Confidence” under the support of the Department of Information Activity and Public Relations of Sumy Regional State Administration was being implemented. The aim of the project was to attract citizens' attention to reforms in the sphere of social protection and to raise a sense of responsibility for their own financial security related to the life and health, to educate young generation to have financial culture and discipline.
From September to November 2015, the project “Strengthening of Public Control over the Formation, Coordination and Implementation of the Counter-Trafficking Policy in Ukraine” was being implemented with the financial support from the IOM. The project presupposed the monitoring of effectiveness of the conducted work and the level of readiness of the subjects who deal with counter-trafficking in human beings to carry out social work with different population categories, the monitoring of provision of social services for social integration and reintegration of people who suffered from trafficking in human beings and the monitoring of the youth’ awareness of trafficking in human beings. On the basis of the monitoring researches within the framework of the project a study guide “Partnership Interaction of Volunteers of Higher Educational Establishments and Non-Governmental Organizations in the Sphere of Counter-Trafficking in Human Beings: Experience of Sumy Region” has been developed.
From 2015 to 2018, the organization was conducting annual training seminars “Development of Self-Employment among the People who Suffered from Trafficking in Human Beings” funded by the International Organization for Migration.
From August to December 2015, the project “Immediate Assistance to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Ukraine” was being implemented with funding from the IOM and supported by the Government of Canada. Within the framework of the project, three two-day trainings regarding self-employment and a one-day training aimed at development of professional skills have been conducted. Due to the intensive information campaign, the IDPs from different districts of Sumy region were involved in the project. The professional team of trainers assisted and consulted participants at the stage of writing business plans and their defence as well as after transferring the equipment.
In October 2015, the “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” organized and conducted an event aimed at drawing attention of state institutions and the population to the problem of trafficking in human beings. Within the framework of this event the printed materials regarding ways of prevention of the trafficking in human beings phenomenon, the consequences of existing slavery were distributed, and the participants were informed about the possibilities of free consulting by calling the National Counter-Trafficking Advice Hotline at telephone number 527. Volunteers actively involved passersby in the action and offered them to take part in decoration of a banner named “Europe without Human Trafficking!” with ribbons. An exhibition of comics “On the Border” was also presented.
From September 2016 to March 2017, the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region”, within the framework of the joint all-Ukrainian project of the All-Ukrainian Coalition of Non-Governmental Organizations that Deal with Counter-Trafficking in Human Beings, was implementing the next phase of the project “Strengthening of Public Control over the Formation and Implementation of the State Policy in the Sphere of Counter-Trafficking in Human Beings in Sumy Region” with the financial support of the IOM. The purpose of this project was to facilitate free and unhindered access of residents of all territorial communities of Sumy region who have suffered from trafficking in human beings to support and protection and to the services for prevention of human trafficking that are guaranteed them by the legislation and the international obligations of Ukraine in this sphere.
From January 2017 to October 2017, the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” was implementing the project “Integration and Stabilization Support through Providing Means of Living to Internally Displaced Persons and Population Affected by the Conflict in Ukraine” with funding from the IOM and under the support of the Government of Great Britain.
From May 2017 to May 2018, the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” was implementing the project “Facilitating the Rehabilitation and Sustainable Solution of the Problems of the Internally Displaced Persons and the Population Affected by the Conflict in Ukraine” with funding from the International Organization for Migration under the support of the European Union.
From June to September 2017, the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” was implementing the project “Facilitating the Development of the Small and Medium Business among the IDPs and Host Communities of Sumy Region” with the financial support from the Fund of Democracy Assistance of the US Embassy in Ukraine. The aim of the project was to promote the development of self-employment, micro business among IDPs and local entrepreneurs.
In February 2018, the training “Istanbul Convention and the Law of Ukraine ‘On Prevention and Combating of Domestic Violence’” was organized and conducted.
In 2018, the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” carried out preventive education regarding safe migration and counter-trafficking in human beings within the framework of the project “Raising Awareness of Vulnerable Children and Youth of Sumy Region of Safe Migration and Employment”. The training was initially organized for future coaches using the methodology “Equal-Equal” (eight-hour training in each of the 18 vocational-technical schools of the region), and only then the trained young coaches conducted the work among their peers. Thus, 288 student leaders, who had been trained according to the above mentioned methodology, formed 144 groups consisting of 2 coaches. Every group held 2 events for their peers, classmates. The primary preventative measures of the young coaches regarding trafficking in human beings reached altogether 3667 students from 18 vocational-technical schools of Sumy region. The project has been implemented with the financial support from the representation office of the Hanns Seidel Foundation in Kyiv.
From April 2017 to July 2019, the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” was implementing the project “Strengthening the Self-Sufficiency of Displaced Persons and Communities of the Sumy Region Affected by the Conflict in Ukraine” with the support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and with financial support from the Governement of the Federal Republic of Germany that is acting through the German KfW Development Bank.
On the March 1, 2019, the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” with the financial support from the representation office of the Hanns Seidel Foundation in Ukraine and in partnership with Sumy Regional Council, the Department of Social Protection of the Population, Sumy Regional State Administration, Sumy Regional Employment Centre, Sumy State University and united territorial communities of Sumy region began to implement the project “Facilitating the Formation and Implementation of the Social Policy in the Sphere of Counter-Trafficking in Human Beings in the United Territorial Communities of Sumy Region”.
In May 2019, the non-governmental organization “Professional League of Social Workers of Sumy Region” won the competition in services rendering concerning prevention of trafficking in human beings, protection of and assistance to the affected people within the Regional special-purpose social programme on solution of priority issues using the mechanism of the social service procurement for the year 2019. The technical task presupposes organization of informing the residents of all territorial communities of Sumy region who have suffered from trafficking in human beings or belong to the risk groups regarding free and unhindered access to assistance and protection as well as to the services for prevention of trafficking in human beings; organization of raising the level of professional competence of specialists/experts in the social sphere who cooperate in the direction of counter-trafficking in human beings. Also in May 2019 the organization won another competition in services rendering concerning arrangement of work of a mobile consulting centre, support and counseling for IDPs and community residents, who are not registered at the employment centre, regarding issues on self-employment and micro-enterprise employment within the framework of the Regional special-purpose social programme on solution of priority issues using the mechanism of the social service procurement for the year 2019.
